Oh Andrew. I love him so much. You're right: he was treated incredibly flippantly as a character - perhaps because the episodes are most often in the POV of the Scoobies themselves? I object to the idea that Xander's treated as a joke after the wedding. If anything, he's a light chara early in the programme: or rather, he fears he is.
I have thinky thoughts, but they're a little to do with how he's almost treated as a younger sibling in some respects, which is probably why his feelings aren't as visible in the narrative. They did miss a trick with the comeback from Jonathan's murder though: much more could have been done there.
Yes, I think given that Xander's given the whole "watching" thing in season seven, and OMG women dying for his character development in season eight. Probably is to do with POV re. Andrew, but I feel like there's an authorial voice somewhere which is making it more.
