Pain, contraception and win

Sitting here drinking tea in incredible pain, reading Hadley Freeman articles and feminist blogs and lamenting my lack of loudness, following Mirena fitting this morning. Everything else below a cut.

Doctor!win. contraception and boyfriend!win )

Also, give me your feminist, right on singer songwriters. I have realised I am a terrible cliche.

Robespierre and win

It has not all been win (there has been some massive fail on my part, which I am not going to explain because people would get annoyed at me). But mostly things are still quite awesome. We did Robespierre Day part two today (reading the second act of Thermidor) and I got to be Robespierre! Awesome slashy marxist Robespierre. And there were the daftest stage directions known to man.

Also I have taken part in singing Fairytale of New York for two nights in a row, I realise. (Only one of those times involved dancing though.

4: Optionally, you can give me a letter and I'll reply in comments with some tracks for thatone.

clauded_horizon gave me R for Robespierre.

Reel around the fountain- the Smiths. A beautiful, romantic song about a wholly unromantic sexual encounter, being romanticised because of loss of innocence and importance to the narrator. Morrissey romanticises things well, he (sometimes) writes about lust well, here he does both. Most finely, too.

Romantic Fatigue- Frank Turner. I like the guitar on it, and I like the lyrics (“When I get out my guitar tonight, remember, I probably didn’t write this song for you). I really like Frank Turner.

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head- B.J. Thomas. This is in two films I like an awful lot (Spider-Man 2, the best comic book movie ever, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which is so fun and funny and then has a great ending (I am not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it), so gets in by association. Also it’s an happy song, and occasionally I like reserves of happy songs.

Rubberband Girl- Kate Bush. Again, it partially gets in by association (it has an AWESOME dance sequence in “The Line, The Cross and the Curve”, and makes a great opening to both that film and to the album.) I like the chorus-y nature of it, and the echo effects. It is generally pretty cool. Not my favourite Kate Bush by any means, but good. Better at the opening than at the frankly insane end, but all in all I like it.

Rip It Up (and Start Again)- Orange Juice. I like Edwyn Collins. I like him a lot. He often writes very pretty songs, which are nice and sad. Sometimes, more frequently earlier in his career, he has written fantastically energetic fun songs which are very cheery and bouncy and make me happy.

Some songs that almost got in, but were overruled by the fact that they didn’t actually begin with R:
I’d Rather Dance with You than Talk With You- Kings of Convenience
The Real Damage- Frank Turner

[profile] resurgamlaura I still have your albums. And Flash Gordon. I will give them back to you.

Music and books

Can anyone help me resolve a not a dispute so much as mutual wondering, and inform me of the best music to which one should listen while reading Terry Pratchett? Apparently the Smiths, because both they and Terry Pratchett make me happy, isn't valid unless its for me alone. So far we have Kings of Convenience, and that's about it. Oh, and AS Byatt combined with listening to Kate Bush is perfection personified. Ideally I want to find a match like that for Terry Pratchett. In other news, I am very much failing to work, since the siren lure of TVITG and Kate Bush are preventing me from doing so. But off to the library now.
